About Department

The Karnataka State Open University, Mysuru is a torch-bear for distance education in Karnataka, to show the leading light to those who have been deprived the privilege of pursuing their education. The Department of Library and Information Science was started during the academic year 2002-03. The Department offers a professional Bachelor’s Degree (B.Lib.I.Sc.) and Master’s Degree programme (M.Lib.I.Sc.) both the programmes are of one year duration. Candidates who have passed any Bachelors Degree examination from a recognized university under 10+2+3 system are eligible to apply for seeking admission to B.Lib.I.Sc. programme and those who have passed B.Lib.I.Sc. are eligible to apply for M.Lib.I.Sc. programme. Since the establishment of the Department, it has fulfilled the desire of many students who wished to pursue the course leading to a noble and a prosperous profession of Librarianship.
