Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) Programme

The Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) Programme of Karnataka State Open University (KSOU) is offered in the Regular Mode and is fully equivalent and at par with the Ph.D. Programmes of all conventional universities in the country. The Programme is designed to promote advanced research and scholarly inquiry across various disciplines.

The Ph.D. Programme of KSOU is governed by the University Grants Commission (UGC) Regulations, 2016, titled “Minimum Standards and Procedure for the Award of Ph.D. Degree”, issued by the University Grants Commission, New Delhi, and is further regulated by the KSOU Ph.D. Ordinance, 2012, including its IV Amendment (2023), as amended from time to time.

Admission to the Ph.D. Programme is primarily intended for candidates who aspire to pursue a career in research, higher education, and academic leadership. The Programme aims to impart Advanced Theoretical Knowledge, Research Methodology, Analytical Skills, and Ethical Research Practices, thereby enabling scholars to make original and significant contributions to their respective fields of study.

Through rigorous coursework, guided research, and scholarly publications, the Programme equips candidates with the requisite knowledge, skills, and competencies necessary to excel in research, teaching, and professional practice.
